A Forceful Presence Of Christianity In Medieval Wo
A Forceful Presence Of Christianity In Medieval Wo A Forceful Presence of Christianity in Medieval World After the collapse of the Roman Empire and the establishment of the Germanic states, a new European civilization slowly emerged in the ninth and tenth centuries of the Early Middle Ages. Charlemagne, a descendant of a Germanic tribe converted to Christianity, had symbolized three chief factors of the new European civilization. They included the German tribes, the classical tradition, and Christianity (Spielvogel, 235). Christianity thrived in the medieval western world throughout the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth centuries. This new society, called Christendom, contributed to ?a period of recovery and growth for Western civilization, characterized by a greater sense of security and a burst of energy and enthusiasm? (Spielvogel, 237). In fact, during that period, the influence of Christianity was a primary determinant in three areas of medieval society. Christianity dominated the rise of universities, which resulted not only in developing well-educated clergy but also in teaching all students the essence of Christian principles. The Metropolitan 'M' Stamp. The dominant form of art, created in gothic cathedrals, symbolized the preoccupation of a medieval Christian community. In Manorialism, even the lord and vassal structure was greatly influenced, as peasants were relieved from labor specifically to celebrate holy days and other religious feasts.?The desire to introduce a systematic approach to knowledge greatly affected the formal study of religion that we call theology? (Spielvogel, 277). Christianity?s importance in medieval society was exhibited through theology?s central role in the European intellectual world. Theology was referred to as ?queen of the sciences?, reigning in monastic, cathedral and new universities (Spielvogel, 277). Medieval universities were educational guilds, or corporations that produced educated and trained individuals. Although monastic schools were most prevalent in the ninth t hrough the eleventh century, cathedral schools extended into the eleventh century. The primary purpose of these schools...

Analysis and study of lady macbeth
Analysis and study of lady macbeth Was Lady Macbeth a fiend like queen or flawed woman? I do believe that Shakespeare intended for her to be both. Initially in the tragedy that is Macbeth, Lady Macbeth is portrayed as ambitious and willing to commit one of the greatest sins of all ââ¬â Murder ââ¬â for Macbeth to become King and for her to gain more power. Act out: Act 1, scene 5, lines 36-52 Out of Role: In this scene it is clear that Lady Macbeth is willing to do whatever it takes to get to the throne. The overwhelming need for a purpose is contrasted with Macbethââ¬â¢s affinity to waver with decisions. This is a prime example of how Lady Macbeth is the backbone of Macbeth and her ambition -not evil- is strong enough to pressure her husband into murdering Duncan. Simultaneously the language of his words grasp the thought of masculinity which is a reoccurring theme- ââ¬Å"unsex me hereâ⬠¦..come to my womanââ¬â¢s breasts, take my milk for gall,â⬠is what Lady Macbeth says to prepare herself for the crime she about to commit. The language implies that her breasts and milk ââ¬â symbolic reference of nurturing ways ââ¬â impedes her from acting on her wishes to perform violent and cruel acts, because she associates it with manliness (the violence etc). Again the relationship between masculinity and violence is deepened when Macbeth refuses to commit murder and his wife tells him effectively to ââ¬Ëbe a manââ¬â¢ and get on with it. A most notable quotation from this scene is;ââ¬â¢Ã ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ I have given suck and know .How tender ââ¬â¢tis to love the babe that milks meââ¬â¢ [reference] Her words endow the reader with the thought that she would give up everything for Macbeth, but also hints that they had perhaps lost a child? If true the loss of a child for anyone would cause trauma and stress along with a great deal of grievance. In the eyes of Lady Macbeth killing Duncan may be a way of seeking revenge on the world, and by becoming King and Queen th e Macbethââ¬â¢s would once again share something filling the void of a lost child. This implicit point may be fuelling her ambition. Act Out: Act One, Scene Seven Out of Role: It is during this seen that it can become easier to merely classify Lady Macbeth as evil. Macbeth is being mocked, and taunted into killing Duncan. By telling him not to ââ¬Å"live like a cowardâ⬠this teases and questions his masculinity. I believe her main ambition is for her husband. Initially she shows her strength and determination by saying ââ¬ËGlamis though art and Cawdor, and shalt be what art though promisedâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬â¢ and realises the only way to drive him forward is in ââ¬Å"bullyingâ⬠him and wearing him down. Lady Macbeth rallies for the occasion and displays a rather meticulous attention to detail in regards to the murder of Duncan. However, morals were seeping through her comment about how she would have killed Duncan via her own hand had he not resembled her father as he s lept. I canââ¬â¢t be sure whether it was her impression that suppressing her conscience for the deed was enough, and it would later just dissipate. This didnââ¬â¢t eventuate, and Macbeth and Lady Macbeth suffered through lack of sleep, due to fears of experiencing terrifying visions. But still, Lady Macbeth is able to maintain her sanity and composure during the day, even more than her husband. She urges him to be light hearted and merry. Once she practically rescues Macbeth from the frailty of his own conscience. When Macbeth sees Banquoââ¬â¢s ghost she creates an excuse to explain his odd behaviour. She attempts to chasten Macbeth by again questioning his manhood. When the situation grows worse though, she takes charge once more and promptly dismisses the lords from the feast.

To apply preparatory course of graduate school in UK - Personal Statement Example Fortunately, I enjoy family support, especially from my father who works as an Electrical and Automation engineer. He is interested in providing both moral and financial support in my pursuit for engineering knowledge, either at home or abroad. Prior to providing detailed description of my personal life and career plans, I would like to categorically explain my specific choice of wanting to study at a UK college. First, I was born and raised in China. I have undertaken all my academic programs within the Peopleââ¬â¢s Republic of China, up to my undergraduate level. As a result, I would wish to pursue further learning within a different environment away from the monotonous Chinese institutions. I choose United Kingdom because it features as one of the most culturally diversified society in Europe. UK is known for its cultural tolerance and warm accommodation to people from diverse religious backgrounds. In addition, the UK offers friendly and homely residential settings to visitors. Accounting fraud Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Accounting fraud - Research Paper Example This paper identifies research problem and purpose in a research paper, aligns the problem and purpose to identify strengths and weaknesses of qualitative research methods and case study design, and justifies selection of qualitative methods and the case study design over other research methods and designs. Overview of the research problem and purpose Fraud, a deception or misrepresentation that aims at deriving unauthorized gain, is a common phenomenon in organizations and has extensive effects on different stakeholders. Examples of fraud include employee embezzlement, vendor fraud, customer fraud, and management fraud including financial statement fraud (Albrecht et al, 2012). Prevention is the most economical approach to managing fraud but limited research has been conducted on the best technique for preventing fraud besides rule-based-strategies. Sufficient research has however been done on other control measures such as auditing. Lack of empirical findings on fraud prevention st rategies is therefore the research problem with focus on in-house data forensic and developing an understanding on the factors affecting in house data forensic is the researchââ¬â¢s purpose. Alignment of the research problem, purpose The research problem and purpose can be explored through qualitative research methods and case study design. ... One of the characteristics of qualitative research is its flexibility that allows for adequate alternatives to exploration. Its methodology allows for development of designs, procedures, and data collection strategies within research processes, a property that maximizes data utility because suitable and adequate data is collected for research. The research method also focuses data interpretation and therefore relies on few variables for specific purpose. It is therefore able to overcome limitation of data on variables and develop meaning on a problem. Another feature of the qualitative approach, based on Academic Conferences, is its objective of a comprehensive and informed description of a subject. The aim of the study, being an understanding of in-house data forensic therefore identify this propertyââ¬â¢s significance because a complete definition of the forensic approach and description of its features and factors around it will inform of its potential challenges and optimal ap plication in fraud prevention. A qualitative researcher do not need much information prior to research and this not only identify ease of implementation but establishes a strength in research fields that have not been explored and therefore lack sufficient background information. The researcher is also able to approach the study from a neutral perspective because of lack of pre-emption (Academic Conferences, 2010). Flexibility is also strength of the method, also though it is also a characteristic feature. Selected research design can be reviewed at any stage of the research process to facilitate the objectives. Flexibility also allows the method to adjust to challenges that may emerge during a research process or dynamism

Essay --
The book ââ¬Å"Caring for Yourself While Caring for Your Aging Parentsâ⬠written by Clare Berman discusses all of the key issues involved in caring for an elderly parent. Berman discusses these issues by drawing from her personal experience and interviews with caregivers. Berman also provides advice and information on: Caregivers, stress among siblings, long distance caregiving, finances and nursing home care (Berman, 2005). This paper will evaluate the way in which the author handled the subject of caring for your aging parents as well as yourself, and how the book contributed to my understanding of the issues discussed. This paper will do so by reviewing a plot summary, character analyses and theme analyses. Plot Summary - Bermanââ¬â¢s book serves as a guide for individuals who are involved in caring for aging parents, (and for those who see caretaking in their future). The book centers on the emotional stresses and needs of caregivers, while at the same time addressing all the practical issues they are likely to confront. Berman does this by drawing on her own experiences, the experiences of many other adult children, and interviews with specialists in geriatrics; Berman also discusses the wide range of emotions that can accompany caregiving (Berman, 2005). Character Analysis ââ¬â The character I choose to examine is Clare Berman herself because she offers herself in her book as an example we all can pull from when we are faced with caring for our older adult parents. Berman is seen as the protagonist in the book due to her battle with caring for her aging mother and mother in law with Alzheimerââ¬â¢s. Bermanââ¬â¢s core quest is to care for her aging mother and mother in law, while caring for herself. This quest is so important to Berman because w... ...ult children. The guilt that as a caregiver they were not doing enough and how as a caregiver you may feel guilt was a constant throughout the book. In terms of the characters I noticed a sprinkling of themes which connected all of them. The type of characters were hardworking, honest, loving caregivers who were seeking a happy medium between caring for themselves, their families and their older adult loved ones. All of the characters wanted to have a separate life as well as creating a good and healthy life for the older adult they are caring for. I believed the authorââ¬â¢s intent is in creating such characters were to help us as the reader to connect to them and their struggles. It also seemed as though Berman wanted to demonstrate that all caregivers go through the same struggles and feelings of inadequacy about what they are doing through the context of the book.

GDP & Employment/Inflation Essay
Introduction The current GDP growth rate for the US economy stands at about 2.5%. It is interesting to note that in each of the last quarters of the years, the rate is higher, but at the start of a new year the rate decreases in the first quarter. For example 2011, QIV is 4.9% while 2012 QI is 3.7%. à The stage of the business cycle the US economy may be is the expansion/recovery stage since its GDP trends show increase in most of the quarters. The GDP of any country may not be considered as an accurate economic well-being measure of a country since it only measures one aspect, the economic performance of a country and ignores other issues (Gordon, & National Bureau of Economic Research Conference on Business Cycles, 1986). The limitations include GDP does not consider inflation or deflation, does not measure externalities and changes due to change in change in exchange rate and it does not measure black markets or illegal transactions (McEachern, & Thomson South-Western, 2008). Unemployment and Inflation The most surprising is the rate of unemployment separated on race basis. The rate for the blacks is quite higher, at about 12.0% in Feb. 2014, compared to 5.8% whites or even 8.1% Latinos or Hispanic in the same month. The rate for the unemployed blacks ranges about between 11% and 13% over the last periods. Unemployment is high in blacks, and teenagers at 21.4%. Men have higher rate of 6.4% in Feb.2014 compared to women at 5.9% which seems to change very slightly. Unemployment rate is low among the highly educated (Gordon, 2004). Women seem to have higher chances of employment since their unemployment rate is low compared to males. The teenagers are still in schools hence higher rate. The rates high rates of unemployment could also be attributed to inflation which causes loss of jobs (Carlberg, 2012). References Carlberg, M. (2012). Unemployment and inflation in economic crises. He states that science has always been a trial of errors and discovery by accidents. For instance, Bryson explains that Marie Curie ultimately gave her life up for science when working with radioactive chemicals to widen the knowledge we have know (109). In the last chapter of the book, Bryson does conclude that humans are ââ¬Å"awfully luckyâ⬠(478) to have been able to survive for this long, even though we have only been apart of earths exist for 0.01 percent of it, and to be able to use our minds to achieve such knowledge about the universe and the earth. 2. Ethos: Bryson establishes himself as a relatable person whom did an excruciating amount of research to find knowledge. Throughout the book, Bryson uses very influential people to support his research. Such as when he is talks about Albert Einstein who founded the Theory of Relativity, and was able to explain how radiation works (122). He also speaks with experts on subjects of specific fields, like when he was speaking with Paul Doss about how Yellowstone park is ââ¬Å"the largest active volcano in the worldâ⬠(228). Continually, Bryson is creates a persona by using humor to make the text more appealing. For example, Bryson states how scientists of different field tend to hate each other, and use the example of Wolfgang Pauliââ¬â¢s wife had left him for aShow MoreRelatedInterpretation of the Text13649 Words à |à 55 PagesP A R T 1.
